Everything But...

Decisions, decisions, decisions.  Decisions always have to be made about something it seems.  Sometimes we don’t even know if the decision we make is the correct one – at least not until after we make it.  There are also times when we make a decision feeling fully confident in what we have chosen to do, but it just doesn’t work out.  Like when someone buys a smart car only to realize, after driving it for a while, that they can actually almost drive under some of the other vehicles on the road.  Or, to put it another way, the smart car driver notices that there are many vehicles that could drive right over them.  At that time, they may second-guess their purchase because their decision was not so smart after all.

When we decide to do unto others as God does unto us we may come upon obstacles.  If we face rejection or ridicule because of our actions or beliefs we might ask ourselves “What have I done?”  But just remember, when our kindness and concern is accepted by others, that decision can change our lives as well as theirs – in amazing ways.  Each individual who accepts our kindness and support comes to know and feel God’s love through us.  Without us who would there be to share God’s love with others?

Accepting God’s call, and recognizing our own gifts for ministry to others, is not always a simple decision to make.  But that is where our faith in God comes in.  Faith in God will give us faith in ourselves, even when the going gets tough, because God always has faith in us.  Through God’s grace we have been given many gifts.  Possibly the greatest gift we each possess is love.  Pass it on.
